Climate Watch
Climate Watch is an environmental initiative working under the umbrella of the Northern Citizen Community Board (NCCB), with a special focus on the fragile mountain regions of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan. Over the years, communities in these areas have witnessed visible and painful changes in their environment. Glaciers are melting at an alarming rate. Flash floods and glacial lake outburst floods have damaged homes, farmland, and public infrastructure. Unpredictable weather patterns have affected agriculture, water sources, and daily life. The people of these regions, despite contributing very little to global carbon emissions, are among the most affected by climate change. Climate Watch was created to give voice to these realities. It is rooted in the belief that environmental protection is not only about nature it is about human dignity, survival, and justice. Our work focuses on raising awareness at the community level, especially among youth and local leaders, so that climate knowledge becomes part of everyday understanding and action. The initiative supports tree plantation campaigns, protection of forests and biodiversity, promotion of clean and renewable energy, and community awareness on disaster preparedness. It also works to document climate-related challenges and bring them to national and international forums so that policy discussions reflect the lived experiences of mountain communities. Climate Watch stands with the people of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan in building resilience, strengthening local capacity, and safeguarding the natural heritage of northern Pakistan. Through collective responsibility and practical action, we aim to contribute to a more secure, sustainable, and climate-resilient future for generations to come
