UNITED NATIONS is called a “Family” – Lets build it more Stronger

In 1945, The United Nations came into being following the devastation of the Second World War, with one central mission: the maintenance of international peace and security after the devastation of a world war where more than 60 million people lost their lives and in a world today where conflicts are still ongoing, and where states cannot agree on peace negotiations and peaceful living as neighbours.

The United Nations, headquartered in New York, is an international organization of 193 member-states to prevent another world war. The Secretary-General is a symbol of United Nations ideals and a spokesman for the interests of the world’s peoples, in particular the poor and vulnerable among them. The current Secretary-General, and the ninth occupant of the post, is Mr. António Guterres of Portugal, who took office on 1 January 2017.
The U.N. Security Council is the most powerful U.N. unit. Its mandate is to keep the peace. The five permanent members are China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The General Assembly elects 10 non-permanent members that hold two-year terms.

The United Nations is the second attempt at a global peace initiative. In 1919, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson pushed for the League of Nations after World War I. It had 58 members but the United States was not one of them.
The U.N. is not a government and has no right to make binding laws. Instead, it uses the power of persuasion. All nations contribute to the U.N. budget. The contribution is calculated on the basis of scale of assessments. The General Assembly has directed that percentage shares range from a minimum of 0.001% to a maximum of 22%, and a maximum of 0.01% for those nations designated as “least developed countries.” The scale of assessments is normally reviewed after every three years. The current time period of assessments is for the years 2016-2018.
The U.N. buys U.S. goods and services, employs Americans, and benefits local New York City businesses. A U.N. study shows that, for every $1 invested by the United States into the U.N., it receives $1.50 in return. As expected, United States of America contributes the highest with a share of 22%. USA’s GNP is approximately 27% of the total GNP of all the member countries of the UN and thus its highest share of contribution is justified. Japan contributes the second highest with 9.68%, followed by China (7.921%), Germany (6.389%), France (4.859%) and UK (4.463%) in the top five. Brazil contributes about 3.823% and is 6th in this list.
Out of the 193 countries part of the UN, the top 20 countries contribute 83.78% while the other 173 countries contribute 16.22% only. The top 10 contributors account for 68.89% of the total contributions. The total regular UN budget for the year 2016-17 is $ 5.6 billion.
United Nations is called a “Family”, where each and every person works and contributes to making other people secure, protected, loved and wanted. An ideal world where each and every person has the opportunity to born, eat, study, be loved by a caring family & dialogue is the pillar of development, progress and caring for the human beings and the Planet Earth.
